7 Steps to Kickstart Your Health Journey
1. Drink more water and less of everything else
The only thing that I drink now is water and the occasional glass of 100% orange juice or grapefruit juice. I have completely cut out soda, juices from concentrate, and other sugary drinks. I really don’t even drink coffee that often anymore. I aim for 100 oz of water each day and love to add lemons to it to give it more flavor!
I went from spending most of my time on the couch to going on bike rides, running outside, using my elliptical, doing workout DVDs, and bringing my dog on multiple walks a day. I like to mix things up every day so I don’t get bored.
3. Focus on whole foods
I have tried very hard at eliminating a lot of processed foods a majority of the time. I am not saying that I do not eat processed foods because I would be lying, but I do try to focus more on fresh meats, veggies, and fruits.
4. Limit eating out to 1-2x a week
My fiancé and I love to eat out. That is part of the reason we gained weight. I would say that before this journey we ate out about 4-5 times a week. I now try to limit eating out to 1-2 times a week and when we do eat out, I try to choose the healthiest option.
5. Find a balance
I wholeheartedly believe in eating a balanced diet. I try to eat healthy about 6 days a week with the occasional small treat mixed in. I could never stick to a diet that limited me to chicken and vegetables every day of my life. I need my pizza and burgers!
6. Get your sleep
I aim to get about 6-8 hours of sleep a night. This is something that I try to stay as persistent as possible with. When I get my sleep, I end up feeling great the rest of the day and I am more likely to workout and eat healthy.
7. Love yourself!
Remember to love yourself! You are beautiful no matter what you weigh. A number on the scale does not define your worth. This is something that I struggle with on a daily basis, but the days that I accept myself I feel more motivated to stick to this journey.
