3 Kitchen Hacks Using Essential Oils!

kitchen hacks using essential oils

I have been OBSESSED with using essential oils lately. From diffusing them to cleaning with them, they have quickly become a staple in my home! Recently, I was reading about the deodorizing properties of citrus oils and I decided to put them to test in my kitchen.

I hate to admit it, but my kitchen can be one of the smelliest places in the house. Between the trash can, the sink, and the microwave –  it is easy for food odors to smell up the whole kitchen. I am someone who gets really grossed out by food odors so I am always looking for an easy way to deodorize. I love that I can use essential oils because they are natural and do not contain harsh chemicals like a lot of other fresheners.

In this post, I am going to share three essential oil hacks to deodorize the kitchen.

Trash Can Deodorizer

It is not surprising that the trash can is one of the smelliest places in my house. After all, it is where I put my trash!

For this hack, all you need is a cotton pad and a citrus essential oil of your choice!

Lemon Essential Oil

All you have to do for this hack is place  2-3 drops of essential oil on a cotton pad and place it at the bottom of your trash can. This will deodorize the whole trash can for about one week. I like to do this every Sunday to ensure that my trash can doesn’t have any embarrassing odors.

Microwave Deodorizer

For this hack all you need is a cup of warm water and a few drops of your favorite citrus essential oil.

In a microwave safe cup, add a half cup of warm water and three drops of essential oils. Microwave the water on high for 3 minutes. Voila! The smells of microwaved food from three weeks ago are gone! This essential creates a diffuser right in your microwave that cuts through odors and leaves your microwave smelling fresh and clean.

Sink Disposal Freshener

When we bought our house last year, we didn’t even realize that it didn’t come with a garbage disposal. This has been an adjustment since we were so used to just throwing our scraps down the drain and turning on the disposal. Now we have to put them in the garbage, but there are still one or two pieces of scraps that get stuck on pots and plates and eventually go down the drain.

Sometime the food debris get stuck and cause a bad odor. This hack has helped to combat the odor for up to three days!

All you need to do is put three to four drops of citrus essential oils down your drain and leave them there for up to thirty minutes without using the sink.
